The In's and Out's of Shopping at Target

With all the coupon policies changing now days, I have been getting quite a few emails and comments about Target. While someday in the future they may be changing their policy's, as far as I can tell right now they are still the same. Here is the IN's and OUT's of shopping at Target to help you get the most for your money.

Target is one of the best stores to shop at in my opinion. They have great customer service! They are always very helpful with any questions you may have, and my favorite is they are so easy to deal with when you have coupons. They are almost happy to take them. With that being said, if you should ever have a problem with anyone or anything at Target, let them know. ~ They want to hear from you and to make it right!

  • Every few days Target releases new coupons. If you see one that you might use, print it then!!! Coupons sometimes go fast on Target.com so print it if you think you may use it! http://coupons.target.com/ I like to check the coupons every 3 days or so. Sometimes they release more coupons and you can pick up ones that you thought were gone. They are good for about a month from when you print them. One of the good coupons (among many) that they have is their clothing coupons. I find lots of items on their clearance that you can combine with their clothing coupons and get them for free. (Read my Target score here!) You can also get Target mobile coupons by texting COUPONS to 827438 (Target). - You can only one Target mobile coupon per transaction. (So lets say you have a mobile coupon for $1.00 off Bayer Aspirin and you want to buy 5. You will have to do 5 separate transactions to save the most.)
Targets Coupon policy is pretty simple.
They accept 2 kinds of coupons:
  • Valid Target-issued coupons

  • Manufacturer coupons

  • Target Policy allows 1 store coupon AND 1 manufacturer coupon to be used on the same product!
  • Coupon value will be reduced if exceeds the value of the item after discounts and coupons are applied (e.g. $1 coupons will be reduced to $0.99 when purchasing a $0.99 item).

  • Target does not give cash if the coupon value is greater than the cost of the item.

  • To save paper, Target coupons can be printed at the gift registry in-store. - I LOVE THIS ONE!!

  • Targets Price Match Policy is great also! Don't forget to have a copy of this in your binder as well!

  • Target will match the price of a competitor's advertisement if the advertisement is local and current and the product being matched is identical.

  • Target will adjust previous purchases within 7 days prior to the purchase.
Copies, photos, print outs, or anything other than the original advertisement will not be accepted during price matching.

  • Target coupons will be applied before price matching.

  • Any manufacturer coupons will be applied after price matching.

  • Extra Ways to Save Money:

  • You get $.05 off your bill for each reusable bag that you use at checkout.

  • Don't forget to look for Target's Gift Card promotions. These look like ~ Buy 2 of x items and get a $5.00 gift card back ~ most of the time they look like that. You can use those gift cards on your next checkout or save them up to use them all at once.

  • You can get a Target Credit Card and save 5% off of each transaction you have, including Starbucks in Target and the food court. ~ This is my favorite though! Target has came out with a Target Debit Card. It can only be used at Target but it pulls right from your checking account that you would more likely pay with anyways and by using your Target Debit Card, you save an extra 5% off your bill too! So when you have 75% off on clearance, with the debit card you now save 80%!! I love that!!

  • Target's Clearance is great! Be on the watch as they mark items down
Target has a national markdown schedule. Watch the end caps of aisles for marked down, clearance, and discounted items. Mark downs take place every two weeks and items will continue to be marked down every two weeks until sold or reaches 75%. Target rarely marks non-holiday items lower than 75%.
Below is the full markdown schedule:
Monday: Electronics, Kids Clothing, & Stationary
Tuesday: Domestics, Women's Clothing, Pets, & Grocery
Wednesday: Men's Clothing, Toys, Health & Beauty, Lawn & Garden
Thursday: Housewares, Lingerie, Shoes, Sporting Goods, Movies, Music, Books, Decor, & Luggage
Friday: Auto, Cosmetics, Hardware, & Jewelry
Holiday are as follows (Christmas markdowns vary):
Post Holiday Day 1-3: 50% off
Post Holiday Day 4-6: 75% off
Post Holiday Day 7-8: 90% off
Hope this all helps you to make your shopping at Target a bit easier. Please feel free to share it with your coupon buddies. Don't forget to print out the coupon policy, price match policy and this to keep in your binder! Good luck!!
